A Poem for Janet

Created by Sue 8 years ago
A beautiful poem written by Alan, one year after Janet passed on:

It's just one year since Janet passed
Her memory though will last and last
Because of all the things we've done
To make her name live on and on.

The crematorium does contain
A book in which dear Janet's name
Has been inscribed for all to see
A memorial for eternity.

At the Cathedral ladies made
A Pallium out of pure brocade
With real gold thread, a lovely union
To be worn by the celebrant of Holy Communion.

Inside the Pallium has been sewn
A label on which it is shown
That the vestment is to commemorate
The life and death of my soulmate.

Jan's love of music was well known
'with that' she said ' you're never alone'
for her, piano was the king
but she played the organ and liked to sing.

A four foot Cathedral organ pipe
'Concert flute G' that was the type
there was no other just the same
so I sponsored it in Janet's name.

The concerts at St Francis School
She thought were good and really cool
And so I bought from the supplier
A memorial cup for 'Best in Choir'.

A Lectern Bible for All Saints Church
Was needed and to help the search
I sent a cheque so they could buy
A new one in Jan's memory.

For Beckside Home we gave a thought
And outdoor furniture was bought
With monies given in lieu of flowers
So residents could lounge for hours.

Gardening was Janet's great delight
The flowers she grew a wondrous sight
A plaque of brass in the ground does sit
With 'A Garden for Janet' inscribed on it.

A website was set up for Jan
So all could through the pages scan
And read about the death and life
Of the one who was my wife.

In future years I will ensure
That the Cathedral gets some more
Of my support by sponsoring
More pipes, or stones - or anything.
